French Haberdasher's Painted Iron Bustier Lamp

French Haberdasher's Painted Iron Bustier Lamp

We absolutely adore this funky wrought iron form and the anonymous visionary who transformed it into a lamp! Originally a blouse form from a French haberdashery, it makes a great accent piece on your favorite side table. Presently wired for France, we are happy to have it rewired for you for a very modest up-charge.

Pair of 19th C Fireclay Urns from Michael Douglas' Former Estate, Signed J&M Craig

Pair of 19th C Fireclay Urns from Michael Douglas’ Former Estate, Signed J&M Craig

Stamped J&M Craig, Perceton, Kilmarnock on the base of one, this rare pair of fireclay urns dates to the late 19th century and was made in Scotland. Featuring elaborate acanthus-leaf decorated bowls and socles, and serpentine reeded bases, they are in in excellent overall condition for their age, with a few minor chips to the rims of the bowls. Acquired from the former Beverly Hills Estate of Michael and Diandra Douglas, they would make a stunning focal point at the entrance to a formal garden. Fireclay is the hardest of all terracotta, as it was fired at extremely high temperatures and is durable in cold climates, although the bowls should be emptied and covered at the end of each season. Magnificent alone, or raised up high on our tall pair of English carved Yorkstone pedestals Stock # SPE 1021 (see photo #10), these urns would be stunning potted up with a profuse planting of annuals or simple boxwood balls. Established circa 1828, J&M Craig produced some of the most beautiful fireclay urns of the 19th century, although few are to be found today, especially in this condition. Interior dimensions of planting bowl: 23 inches diameter x 11 inches high. The feet measure 14 7/8 inches square. Please note that the urns are sold separately from the pedestals, but for reference, together, the urns and pedestals measure 60.5 inches high x 18 inches square.

Imposing 19th C French Zinc Architectural Mirror with Original Glass

Imposing 19th C French Zinc Architectural Mirror with Original Glass

An extraordinary piece, this bold architectural mirror is made of zinc and features its original glass which is in very good condition for its age. The zinc frame has had a repair to the upper right edge but there remain a couple of small residual holes, which are really invisible unless you're looking for them, particularly if you hang the mirror. It features a wood backing that makes hanging a breeze and weighs about 80 lbs., so not a problem to hang on a wall with expansion drywall "mollies". The glass is in very good condition, but has a few small spots where the mercury backing has been lost...this is expected in a mirror of this age. Truly a magnificent focal point in a large room or entranceway with high ceilings. And its gorgeous medium-dark gray patina works with everything.

Set of Eight Steel Stak-a-Bye Chairs with Original Naugahyde Seats

Set of Eight Steel Stak-A-Bye Chairs with Original Naugahyde Seats

This sleek set of eight polished steel Stak-A-Bye chairs features their original snap-on brown naugahyde seats and is rare, rare, rare. In lovely vintage condition, we had the frames stripped and lacquered, but there are some small specks of rust, mainly on the bottom of the legs. The seats are in very good condition, but do show some age-appropriate creasing. Some of the chairs are missing the rivets that connect the seat to the frame, but this does not impact their stability or comfort. What's even more special is that they all stack neatly in a corner or closet so they are perfect if you are short on space and long on entertaining. Superbly comfortable, we used them for years in our house in France as extra seating for large dinner parties, but are re-doing the dining area, so these are now for sale. Designed by Harry Sebel, an Englishman who settled in Australia and founded the Stak-A-Bye Company, his original designs were made all in steel or with the more rare naugahyde seats. Please contact us if you would ike photos of the individual chairs.

Rustic 19th C Twelve Foot French Pine Dining Table

Rustic 19th C Twelve Foot French Pine Dining Table

When we bought this rustic table in Provence, it had so much staining to the top that we really felt it needed to be redone. Who would have thought such amazing grain would reveal itself? The double plank pine top tells its age, while the untouched very rustic trestle-like bases are thought to be original. We have left the top raw awaiting your choice of finish and the bases can be painted, varnished, or left as is. The top is in excellent condition, while the bases have some evidence of old wormwood and are roughly constructed. What a focal point in a rustic barn dining room that will comfortably seat 12 or more. Please note that we also have a pair of trestles that will work wonderfully with this table, so give us a call if you’d like photos of them.

Cast Stone Greek-Form Solid Urn on Terracotta Pedestal

Cast Stone Greek-Form Solid Urn on Terracotta Pedestal

We bought these two pieces separately and, after painting their unattractive red surfaces in a pale grey, they make a fabulous statement together. The English cast stone Greek-style urn breaks down into 4 pieces for easy shipment and the fluted American terracotta base is very sturdy and weather-resistant. Perfect at the center of a classical garden with a circle of clipped boxwood at the base, you can leave these pieces outside year-round uncovered in any climate. Just be sure to place the pedestal on a piece of stone, cement footing or gravel.

Verdigris Bronze Doll Head Mold

Verdigris Bronze Doll Head Mold

Certainly not our usual fare, but definitely a statement! We have only one of these remaining from a collection of natural verdigris bronze doll head molds from a defunct factory in Falls River, MA. We have thought of lighting them from within and hanging them from a tree at Halloween, but no doubt, you have much better taste. Museum mounts can be fabricated at your request for an additional charge. The one remaining is the larger head with a cage shown to the left.

American Folk Art Grain Painted Wooden Suitcase

American Folk Art Grain Painted Wooden Suitcase

Amazing grain painting makes this a whimsical decorative piece, maybe for stacking with other suitcases. If you look closely, you will see that this appears to have been made from an old top dresser drawer and features the original brass handle and escutcheon. There is no lock, so if stands on its side, it will open, but our amazing restoration and fix-it-all man can figure out a good closure mechanism if you like. The inside bottom is ink-stamped with a series of numbers, as well as the image of an elephant pushing something.

Pair of 19th C Painted Scottish Barber's Chairs

Pair of 19th C Painted Scottish Barber's Chairs

We love these chairs for their unusual sculptural form, gently reclining backs, and original brass and steel towel racks. When we first bought them, they were a mess, but did have layers and layers of decrepit leather and horsehair stuffing, so we knew them to be the real deal. Now, they have been fully restored and, in a black matte finish, are ready for your designer touch! Completely sturdy and very comfortable, they would be stunning flanking a fireplace, on either end of a dining table, or in a contemporary seating area. Plus, what conversation pieces! The wood (likely oak), brass, and steel chairs are in excellent condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. These are unsigned but surely made by Lorimer & Moyes, Glasgow, CA 1850s.

We are always in search of unusual objects to convert into sinks and this is the best we've ever found. Dating to the mid-18th C or earlier, this beautifully weathered oval-in-a-rectangle window surround was carved from a single block of stone and has the most exceptional mossy surface. We can have our stone mason pour a concrete bottom for you or you can have it converted by your workmen. The color and graining on this period Louis Philippe buffet is spectacular and the added detail in the recessed doors and beaded drawers makes it very special. Loaded with storage space, it's the missing piece in your dining room scheme or in a bedroom as added storage. All original period heavy brass hardware. Slight warp to the top of one door that makes it sit a little proud to the other but does not affect functionality or beauty. Centuries of hand polishing have conveyed a beautiful and very hard surface that needs no maintenance other than dusting.
