19th C Portuguese Hand-Painted Majolica Cat Figure

19th C Portuguese Hand-Painted Majolica Cat

We absolutely adore this incredibly life-like three-dimensional and very detailed terracotta cat, hand-painted in shades of grey and black. Her eyes, nose and whiskers are so life-like you will think her real from a distance. In amazing antique condition and stamped “J. Belo (Filio), Caldas da Rainha, Portugal” on the underside, we would keep her indoors to preserve the original paint which has a tiny bit of wear on the edges of the ears and tail. J. Belo was a famous maker of majolica beginning in the early 19th C.

French 19th C Open Sphere Made from Wine Barrel Irons

French 19th C Open Sphere Made from Wine Barrel Irons

We are great fans of quirky items and bought this open sphere expecting to make it into a lighting fixture, but we have lost our lighting expert and so are selling this and a companion sphere (FBA 1018) in unrestored condition. It would be stunning repainted and fitted with a 4-candle cluster, but we also think it stands alone as an unusual decorative piece by your front door or in a garden bed. Leave the patina as is or repaint it to your custom specifications and it will give you decades of please outside year-round in all climates. Approximate weight is 5 lbs.

French Zinc Bottle Drying Rack with Prestigious French Wine Bottles

French Zinc Bottle Drying Rack with Prestigious French Wine Bottles

Originally used to dry wine bottles for reuse, this zinc rack is a particularly nice size and form and, with the addition of multiple empty French wine bottles, some with very good vintages (included in the price), can easily be converted into a fabulous and unique chandelier for your high-ceilinged kitchen or wine cellar. Alternatively, use it on the ground with our wine bottles as a conversation piece. It also makes a quirky and fun shoe rack and can be left outside year-round so those muddy boots never touch your floors. The patina of zinc continues to evolve over the years when left outside and it turns a stunning silvery-blue color. Approximate weight of the rack is 40 lbs. (but the bottles weigh about 50 lbs. more) and the rack has integral chains for suspending it which can be removed if you like.

Fabulous Pair of French 19th Century Bronze and Marble Garniture Urns

Fabulous Pair of French 19th Century Bronze and Marble Garniture Urns

This pair of diminutive garniture urns is just sensational. The intricate and deeply-cast bronze urns are shaped identically to the famous Warwick urn and feature fruit, flowers and elaborate swags in exquisite detail. Mounted on deeply-reeded and flared octagonal pedestals of black marble, and with a twisted rope accent in bronze to the base, they would make a superlative addition to your formal mantlepiece. We, however love garniture urns for a little-known benefit. They are the perfect size for standard pillar candles and completely heat-proof as well, so never any worries about spill damage.

Pair French Nautical Oak Candelabra with Drinking Glasses/Candle Holders

Pair French Nautical Oak Candelabra with Drinking Glasses/Candle Holders

Occasionally we find wild and wonderful things on our buying trips and these are particularly enticing. Made from oak barrel staves and integral plexiglas stands on either end, each candelabrum features 6 weighted and stemmed drinking glasses that won’t spill during a patch of rough water. And since most of our clients are not seafaring types, we have put short candles in each glass to make a very special tabletop display. Place them end-to-end on your large dining table for a special conversation piece that is also utilitarian. Or bring them aboard your yacht and break open a bottle of bubbly. Please note that the height of the candelabra with the glasses is 8 inches, but the height of the oak stave holder is 5.63 inches. Lastly, most of the glasses show a line of etching inside that does not detract from look or functionality.

Large Pair of Framed Florentine Dried Botanicals #1, Dated 1905

Large Pair of Framed Florentine Dried Botanicals #1, Dated 1905

We have two pairs of these large Florentine dried Botanicals, as well as a single one, all with different species, but identically framed and they make a powerful statement (especially if you hang them side-by-side on a single wall). They are in good antique condition, but there has been some humidity that has seeped into the paper, giving each the backing of each botanical a wavy appearance. Also, the dating in ink on each one is slightly blurred and there is a bit of foxing, but they all date to between 1905 and 1912. The frames are solid and in chippy white paint that works beautifully with the botanicals. All handmade by an unknown artist in Florence in the early 20th century, they are elegant and quite detailed.

Three English Edwardian Mounted Fungi Sculptures of Fomes Fomentarius

Three English Edwardian Mounted Fungi Sculptures of Fomes Fomentarius

We were blown away when we first saw these petrified mushroom sculptures as there is nothing else like them! Reminiscent in form of Nike of Samothrace, they would make a stunning display on a dining table, coffee table, or atop a large mantle where their fabulous form and texture can be fully appreciated. One has had a small repair that is pretty much invisible unless you are looking for it, but this does not detract from its beauty or stability. Each is mounted on different wooden bases, painted matte black for a real WOW factor. Sold as a set of three.

Three-Dimensional Metal and Acrylic Painting of Beach Chairs by the Seaside

Three-Dimensional Metal and Acrylic Painting of Beach Chairs by the Seaside

Not our usual fare, but we were completely taken with the uniqueness of this three-dimensional painting with its vibrant colors, realistic depiction of sand and sea, and the striped chairs, which put you smack in the middle of a French plage (beach). Overall in good vintage condition, there are some losses to the metal frames of the beach chairs, a patch where the applied "sand" has worn away, and maybe a bit of bleed-through of rust in the sky (or it could be the way the artist painted it), but we think this only adds to its realistic feel. Perfect anywhere at a beach home and stunning when paired with our red "Pecheur" painted bistro set with 8 chairs (Stock # FDS 1019).

Large French Wooden Vendange Bucket from Burgundy

Large French Wooden Vendange Bucket from Burgundy

This wooden beauty was originally used to collect grapes from the vineyards during the "vendange" or grape harvest. It has an elaborate and quite stunning woven design to the top and bottom rims and has been branded with the initials "ML" under one handle. Hand-made of Sycamore and pine with wrought iron banding, we have left it in original found condition, but you may want to polish it with butcher's wax to remove the whitish areas and use it as a planter, kindling bucket, or storage for magazines and newspapers. Whatever use you choose, it is a stunning piece and will give you decades of pleasure inside or out. Please note it does not have drain holes, but we can drill them if you like.

Tiled English Arts and Crafts Bamboo Stick Stand

Wow! What a beauty and even the repaired tile on the left-hand side does not detract from its elegant presence. This real bamboo stick stand is beautifully crafted and has amazing little touches, such as the engraved brass buttons on the four top corners and the original galvanized drip tray. Perfect in a small space to hold umbrellas. Left hand tile has been repaired and a couple of tiny chips here and there. Otherwise, in beautiful antique condition. Possible to have the repaired area that shows white painted to blend in.
