Pair of Enormous 18th Century Covered Marble Urns from Oprah Winfrey's Personal Collection

Pair of Enormous 18th Century Covered Marble Urns from Oprah Winfrey's Personal Collection

This exceptionally rare and enormous pair of mid-18th Century covered marble urns come from Oprah Winfrey's Personal Collection and once graced her Montecito estate. Hand-carved from the finest carrara marble by a master Italian artisan in Marchese, they feature their original highly decorative lids, although one of the pineapple finials has been partially replaced. One urn base has a chip to the corner of one foot and both have several old visible repairs to their exterior that is to be expected with urns of this age. These urns are the consummate garden ornaments of the highest quality and style and will MAKE your garden or entranceway inside your home. Weighing in at around 600 pounds each, they will require a forklift or 6 strong men to place. Each has a newish stainless steel pintle that is mortared to the inside of each bowl that makes insertion into the bases very easy. Both urns are extremely solid with no wobble and can be left outside year-round in all climates, although they will continue to weather and sugar over the years if left outside. Imagine them raised up on a wall flanking the entrance to your garden or atop stone gate piers at the front of your estate. In summary, no description can adequately describe the extraordinary beauty and craftsmanship of these urns. Please note that the feet measure 13 inches x 12.75 inches.

Set of English Lead Four Seasons from Oprah Winfrey's Private Collection

Set of English Lead Four Seasons from Oprah Winfrey's Private Collection

A spectacular set of four lead figures, each representing a different season, are raised up on large plinth blocks of limestone with a beveled top edge. From Oprah Winfrey's personal collection, where they once graced her Montecito estate, they would make a stunning display in the center of four boxwood squares and a superb focal point in your parterre. From the left in the first photo, the figures represent Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Winter has a hooded cloak wrapped tightly around her, Spring features a crown of leaves and holds a cluster of leaves and grapes, Summer holds a garland of flowers, and Autumn holds a scythe in one hand and a sheaf of wheat tucked under her arm. Unsigned, but with lovely detailing, the figures sport a beautifully-weathered patina, as do the tops and some sides of the limestone plinths. The condition of the figures is perfect, with no breaks or repairs (and only a few squirrel nibbles on some of the feet), while the limestone plinths are in very good condition with only a few chips and nicks incurred in shipping that will soon weather-over. There is a slight variation in the dimensions of the figures, but they generally measure 31 inches high, while the plinths uniformly measure 18 inches square x 20.75 inches high. Dimensions below are the maximum for all figures. Please call if you would like individual measurements for the figures.

Magnificent French 19th C Zinc Fountain with Provenance

Magnificent French 19th C Zinc Fountain with Provenance

This magnificent 19th century zinc fountain was purchased from the NY estate of Helen Finch Foulds, heir to the Finch Pruyn Lumber Company in Glens Falls, NY, and best known for her $4.5 Million bequest to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the late 1950s. It depicts a winged putto holding a fish aloft and out of the reach of a child triton, on a lily leaf-covered base and is in original, unpainted surface. An allegory of Love, this fountain was inspired by pieces commissioned by Louis XIV who built Versailles, and is signed indistinctly on its base. Such exceptional works of art were always sculpted first by a well-known and respected artist prior to casting, and we believe this is likely the work of Joseph Louie August Claudin (French, 1837-1913), an Alsatian sculptor. It is in excellent condition overall, with a small piece missing from the base (likely where it was plumbed) and two small seam separations that do not affect either the look or functionality of the fountain. Zinc fountains of this period were cast in multiple pieces from the original sculpture and then assembled and seamed together by hand. It would make a stunning centerpiece in a formal garden, slightly elevated in a round pool and surrounded by a parterre of boxwood. Alternatively, leave it unplumbed and enjoy it as the gorgeous piece of sculpture it is.

Pair of White "Spidlight" Chairs by Douglas Mont for Jetnet with Interior Lights

Pair of White "Spidlight" Chairs by Douglas Mont for Jetnet with Interior Lights

Not our usual fare, but we were completely entranced by the sculptural form, function and interior lighting capability of these chairs. Cast in a single piece from polypropylene, and originally designed by Douglas Mont in 2000 for Jetnet, who has produced them ever since, these chairs rarely are seen in white, which we think is the most appealing of colors for a contemporary pool, garden or loggia. They  feature a tripod base with curved tapering seat back, and a hole to the underside for inserting an electric light. The underside is impressed with the maker's mark. Wonderful condition and very comfortable! Please note that we have not yet changed out the wiring from French to American, but this is included in the price.

French Articulated Wooden Mannequin

French Articulated Wooden Mannequin

We saw this great mannequin in a shop in the town of Montcuq in SW France and just had to have it. In older cream color paint, it would make a great shop sign painted with your business name or "WELCOME" and pointing to the inside of your shop. Alternatively, it would make a unique piece of moveable art on a wall in either a child's room or anywhere else for the young at heart.

Folk Art Grain Painted Wooden Suitcase

Folk Art Grain Painted Wooden Suitcase

Amazing grain painting makes this a whimsical decorative piece, maybe for stacking with other suitcases. If you look closely, you will see that this appears to have been made from an old top dresser drawer and features the original brass handle and escutcheon. There is no lock, so if stands on its side, it will open, but our amazing restoration and fix-it-all man can figure out a good closure mechanism if you like. The inside bottom is ink-stamped with a series of numbers, as well as the image of an elephant pushing something.

Pair of 19th C Painted Scottish Barber's Chairs

Pair of 19th C Painted Scottish Barber's Chairs

We love these chairs for their unusual sculptural form, gently reclining backs, and original brass and steel towel racks. When we first bought them, they were a mess, but did have layers and layers of decrepit leather and horsehair stuffing, so we knew them to be the real deal. Now, they have been fully restored and, in a black matte finish, are ready for your designer touch! Completely sturdy and very comfortable, they would be stunning flanking a fireplace, on either end of a dining table, or in a contemporary seating area. Plus, what conversation pieces! The wood (likely oak), brass, and steel chairs are in excellent condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. These are unsigned but surely made by Lorimer & Moyes, Glasgow, CA 1850s.

Two Art Deco Stained Glass Headboards

Two Art Deco Stained Glass Headboards

These are simply amazing! Sourced from a Miami Beach movie theatre, where they once served as dividers between the main floor and mezzanine seating areas, they just happen to be the perfect size for Queen-sized headboards. Alternatively, they could be re-worked to make a magnificent oval banquet table. The 2" thick tubular brass frames enclose a border of faux-painted overlapping iron circles. In the center of each, a golden stained glass Palmetto Palm sits against a multi-hued rainbow of straw yellow, amber, cobalt, and amethyst-colored stained and leaded glass. The glass panels are backed with plexiglass on one side so no worries about breaking the glass. Magnificent and without peer when backlit. One is in near-perfect condition with a crack at the seam of the leading in a small pale yellow panel that looks pale blue in the photo (see photo #9), while the the other has 2 cracked panels, one to a small pane of amethyst glass near the bottom and one to the bottommost 2 panels of the palm leaf (see photos #10 and 11). One would not see these cracks on this piece if it were used as a headboard.

Slight warp to the top of one door that does not affect functionality or beauty.
