Pair of Tall Octagonal Hand-Carved French Limestone Finials
This rare and very special pair of early hand-carved limestone finials features stepped octagonal bases, tall octagonal risers, octagonal collars, and polyhedron balls at the top. Each has a flattened back section to the collars (so two out of eight collar sections are flat), as these were originally carved to fit flat against a wall. Their patina is breathtaking with loads of lichen and moss which gives them great presence, along with their height. One of the polyhedron balls has had a less-than-optimal repair to its bottom part, but our masterful restoration man will be working in the near future to restore it to its original shape. Place atop a wall at the entrance to your garden, flanking your doorway or atop gate piers for a very special look indeed. Please note that these finials should be sited on stone or poured footings to avoid moisture wicking during harsh winters, or brought inside for maximal durability.
