Pair of Long 19th Century French Oak Benches with Chamfered Detailing
We always buy long pairs of French wooden benches when we can find them and this pair is lovely, but imperfect. Constructed largely by mortise and tenon technique, the bottom stretchers each have one end where the stretcher has been riveted to the top of the front-to back supports, so the strethers are not level, but are identical. In addition, part of the chamfered edge on one of the benches has gone missing, but really in not noticeable unless you are looking for it. They would be great flanking a large farm table or up against a wall for extra seating. Please note that the dimensions of the two benched differ very slightly and is completely normal for benches of this age. Dimensions are as follows:
Bench #1: 18.25" high x 16.5" leg depth x 9.25" seat depth x 73" wide.
Bench #2: 18.25" high x 16.5" leg depth x 9.13" seat depth x 73.38" wide.
