French 19th Century Heavy Wrought Iron Gate by Ducel or Durenne
We found this little beauty outside Agen in the Southwest of France and were struck by its simple elegance. Dating to the early 19th C, it is in pristine condition with mortise and tenon joints and original riveting. It sports its original latch and would make the perfect entrance piece to your secret garden. Please note that the dimensions do not include the small anchoring foot to the right, which adds another 1.75" to the height overall. This gate is shown in the 1868 Antoine Durenne catalog, as well as in the 1850 J.J. Ducel catalog. Both were famous French foundries whose pieces are still highly desirable.
