Rare Pair of 18th C French Stone Cannelle Gate Piers
This fabulous and elegant pair of hand-carved limestone "cannelles" were originally used to grind wheat in the 18th C and are named "cannelles" after the same-shaped little cinnamon cakes made famous by Bordeaux pastry-makers. These are fresh from a Chateau outside Bordeaux and would make fabulous gate piers at the entrance to your country estate. Loaded with moss and lichen, they feature detailed reticulated carving, are quite imposing, and are very rare. Their weight is approximately 1500 lbs. each and will require a forklift. The one to the left in photo #1 measures 43" hi x 21" diameter. while the one to the right measures 45" hi x 21" diameter.
