Large Hand-Chased 19th Century French Copper Cauldron
What a beauty! This large handmade copper cauldron has a thick iron handle that extends on either side and the inside has been polished to a brilliant finish. All hand-chased on the interior with exquisite detail, we have left the original dark green verdigris surface on the outside for an interesting effect. You, however, may want to polish up the exterior as well. There has been an old and very good repair with molten brass to the bottom edge visible in photo #7, but the cauldron is water tight. We think it's a perfect fireplace accessory to hold kindling and small logs, but you may also use it as a planter and we can drill drain holes, flatten the bottom, and have a custom fiberglass liner made if you like (since copper is toxic to plants when they are in direct contact with it.) Alternatively, you can pop a plastic-potted topiary or profuse planting inside for a tidy solution. Please note that the diameter of the cauldron alone (without the handle extensions) is 28", but with the handles extensions, it measures 40.5" wide x 28" diameter x 16.5" hi.
