Pair of French Cast Stone Swan Statue Planters
This pair of swans is sleek and sinuous and much more stylized than the ones you typically find from the 1950s. A wonderful size and impressive as statuary atop gate piers, we also love them for their beautiful weathered patina and deeply cast feather pattern. When we bought them, they were planted with sedum in a shallow well between the wings and looked spectacular. After shipping them here from France, however, we discovered that each well holds the remnants of a metal piece (photo #7) and so these may have originally been used as umbrella bases (?). No matter, though, as there is ample room to plant sedum around the metal fragment or we can have the remnants removed and plug the holes to create even more room. In excellent condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
