Cast Iron Center Fountain with Octagonal Pan, Signed "Sun Foundry, Glasgow"
With a stunning octagonal cast iron pan, this magnificent and rare center fountain features three removable egrets, each in a different position on rockwood bases. The fountain has a rising stiffleaf body, eight-petal bowl, and putto with cornucopia. Signed "George Smith, Sun Foundry, Glasgow" in two places. Exceptional and fully operational condition. Elegant, but not fussy, the water flows from the mouth of the cornucopia, down over the putto, filling the petal-shaped bowl and gently cascading down the 8 sides into the octagonal pan. This fountain and pan were sandblasted and repainted 15 years ago and at that time, the right arm of the putto was restored. Minor surface rusting give it just the right patina for a piece commensurate with its age, but we can have it sandblasted and repainted to your custom specifications, if you prefer.
