Francois Carré Five Piece Harlequin Garden Dining Set
We've had this wonderful Francois Carré steel and wrought iron table and matching fanback chairs in our private collection for many years now, but have never been able to find another pair of fanback chairs to complete the set. As such, we are now offering the table, the pair of fanback chairs, and a pair of complementary Carré octagonal chairs with comfortable and removable slip seats in an antique rose linen (easily recovered with a staple gun and new fabric). Recently cleaned and repainted, they are in excellent structural condition, have never been repaired, and are extremely comfortable, although there are a couple of small spots of rust showing through. The table measures 42" diameter x 30" high (with a removable glass top), the fanback chairs measure 27" wide x 25" deep x 33" hi x 17" seat height and the octagonal chairs measure 18.25" wide x 23" deep x 35.25" hi x 18.5" seat height. Originally patented by Francois Carré in 1866, these "spring chairs," as they are known for their springy seats, are widely known and loved. In the collections of Bunny Williams, David Hicks, and Christopher Filley, on the set of Grey Gardens, and used by Le Corbusier in the rooftop garden of Charles de Beistegui's Parisian apartment, they have become iconic and oh-so-comfortable additions to gardens worldwide. We have deeply discounted this set to below our original cost, so no further price reductions are available.
