Pair of Magnificent French Cast Iron Urns with Serpent Decoration by Val d'Osne
A large and very rare pair of modified tazza-form urns featuring double-entwined scaly serpent decoration, the heads terminating in the handles, elegant beaded rim and socle, third-lobed body and square foot. These urns stand alone as sculpture, having been redone in matte black paint with waxed overcoat, but are also elegant with topiary or flowers. Modern tall steel pedestals painted matte black are available for an additional charge. Very good condition overall; an old, invisible repair to side of base on one urn; one urn has had a new center drainage pipe added and the bowl has been internally welded to the socle. Very minor surface rust appears in several spots on the rims. Unsigned, but reliably attributed to Val d'Osne, the famous French foundry. Dimensions are for urns alone.
