Fresh from a chateau outside Grenoble, this superb pair of hand-carved limestone baskets is the best (and largest) we have ever seen! From the second half of the 19th C, they are in amazing condition, with only a few minor chips and loaded with moss and lichen. But what really surprises is the scale...36" hi x 38" diameter and overflowing with sunflowers, roses, apples, grapes, bananas, pomegranates, melons. Topped with artichokes, they will make a breathtaking statement atop your entrance gate piers on on low pedestals flanking your front entrance. Photos don`t do these justice, so plan a trip to CT if possible. France, 1870s.
