This stunning and very early hand-carved marble head depicts Artemis, the Greek version of Diana. In wonderful condition with a softly worn patina, the caving detail is superb. Although her original socle has broken off, we envision her mounted her on a stone or stainless block. Purchased in England as a Regency-era bust, we think she is likely much earlier. Illegible marks on the side of the base, possibly Greek letters. Small chip to back corner of base seen in Photos 6 & 7 and very light small area of discoloration to top of head. Please note that although this head is presently unmounted, we can have it mounted for you on a stone block at cost.
