Venus Medici, Ca 1870 on Doulton Pedestal, mid-19th C
Signed J. Lipscombe & Co., Chesterfield, England
An extraordinary 3/4 model of the Venus Medici in glazed white terracotta with a craqueleur finish. She is poised as if in motion on a sensational pedestal of white terracotta attributed to Doulton. Venus cradles a small stone in her right hand, symbolizing the casting away of all worldly concerns. This statue has been carefully restored to her original splendor and should remain indoors in cold climates. This photo shows her pre-restoration condition.
